TERESA PINTO CORREIA

ICAAM, Universidade Évora

is associate professor at the University of Évora, Portugal. She is since 2012 Head of the Institute of Mediterranean Agrarian and Environmental Sciences (ICAAM), and she teaches in the Department of Landscape Environment and Planning. Also since 2012, she is the President of IALE-Europe. Her research is on the dynamics of agricultural and silvo-pastoral landscapes in the Mediterranean, and how they are affected by different sets of drivers, between production, consumption and protection, creating tensions but also synergies.

NUNO DE ALMEIDA RIBEIRO

ICAAM, Universidade Évora

is a Researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Agrarian Sciences (ICAAM) and professor at the University of Évora, Portugal (Department of Crop Science). He has conducted research on tree growth and yield modeling, mainly in pure and mixed cork oak stands. He has developed a single tree spatial growth simulator for cork oak (CORKFITS) and is currently developing an ecological based decision support system (ECCORK) for aid in management decisions for cork oak stands.

Universidad Extremadura

is professor at the Forestry School at the University of Extremadura in Plasencia (Spain) and researcher of InDehesa (Institute of Research for Dehesa). Currently is the president of the Spanish Association of Agroforestry and member of the National Network of Extensive Pastoralism. His research topics are ecology and management of agroforestry systems (wood pasture and others), dynamics and management of resources (water and nutrients) in terrestrial ecosystems, and strategies for adaptation to climate change and to mitigate its effects.

Dr. Fernando Pulido
DR. FERNANDO PULIDO

Universidad Extremadura

is associate professor of Universidad Extremadura, Department of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering. He is an ecologist and forest scientist interested in how dominant and rare trees interact with abiotic and biotic factors throughout their life cycle. His also interested in applying biological knowledge to conservation and social issues.

Susanne Schnabel
SUSANNE SCHNABEL

Universidad Extremadura

PhD and MSc in Physical Geography (Free University of Berlin, University of Toronto). Professor of Physical Geography at University of Extremadura, Spain. Coordinator of the GeoEnvironmental Research Group (http://www.grupogiga.es/). She has carried out research dealing with land degradation, soil erosion and hydrology of rangelands. Recent studies include the development of soil quality indicators, soil water dynamics and the effect of land use and management changes on vegetation, soils and hydrology.

Begonia Pecco
BEGÕNA PECO

Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

she leads the “Terrestrial Ecology group” in the Ecology Department of the Autonomous University of Madrid (http://teguam.es/), focusing on Grassland and Shrubland Ecology. She had addressed the effects of land-use changes in rural landscapes on biodiversity, in particular the problems arising from the abandonment of agriculture and grazing, involving biological and socioeconomic aspects including the implementation and effectiveness of agri-environmental measures. Recently she is working in changes in structural and functional diversity along productivity, water availability and disturbance gradients.
